Aurora Man Dies in Motor Vehicle Accident

Head-on collisions, although more rare than other motor vehicle crashes, are often fatal. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2008 alone, head-on collisions were the cause of 3,914 deaths in the United States. This is out of a total of 37,261 fatalities from motor vehicle accidents total. Therefore, approximately 11% of motor vehicle collision deaths were from head-on collisions.

Motor vehicle accidents are unfortunately all too common in Illinois and often lead victims to suffer serious injuries or fatalities. According to statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation, in 2009, 911 people died in Illinois car accidents, over 89,000 were injured.

In Aurora, a southwest suburb of Chicago, one individual was recently killed and another was critically injured due to a head-on crash, according to the Daily Herald. The car accident occurred on Route 30 outside of Aurora. In a preliminary investigation, police determined that a vehicle that was traveling eastbound crossed the centerline and was struck head-on by a westbound vehicle. Neither driver was impaired during the accident, but police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Our Chicago lawyers understand that when drivers get behind the wheel of a car that they owe a duty of safety to other drivers on the road. When drivers do not take the proper precautions and their carless behaviors cause others to suffer personal injuries to others, they may be held liable for the negligence. Through our justice system, accident victims may be entitled to compensatory damages, which are court monetary awards to put the injured person back in the position they were before the injury. These damages literally “compensate” by trying to return to the individual back to their pre-accident status quo. Oftentimes we see victims receive damages for ongoing medical expenses and loss of income related to the accident.

Accident victims should take action to explore their legal options as soon as possible after a car accident. No two cases are the same, but it is crucial for victims to choose lawyers who understand federal and Illinois law as it applies to car accident lawsuits and have proven themselves successful at representing victims in previous cases. Our attorneys have helped hundreds of people throughout Illinois who have fallen victim to the negligence of others and apply this experience and knowledge to bring fair and reasonable compensation to each of our clients.
