Stroller Maker Britax Sued by Consumer Product Safety Commission for Failure to Recall Dangerous B.O.B. Strollers

Popular stroller maker Britax was sued on February 16th by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for failure to issue a recall of models of their B.O.B. jogging strollers that have been reported to cause injuries to both adults and children. According to claims by owners, the front wheel of the 3 wheel strollers is unable to be properly secured to the frame, causing the wheel to become lodged in the ground and the stroller to tip over. The CPSC complaint cites 200 consumer complaints involving a B.O.B. stroller’s front wheel since January 2012, resulting in injuries to at least 50 children and 47 adults.

According to the consumer complaints, B.O.B. jogging strollers have caused the injuries described below.

Infant/Child Injuries

  • Concussions
  • Injuries to the head and face requiring stitches
  • Dental injuries
  • Contusions and Abrasions

Adult Injuries:

  • Torn labrum (cartilage in the shoulder)
  • Fractured bones
  • Torn ligaments
  • Contusions and abrasions

The models of Britax strollers named in the CPSC lawsuit are all 3 wheeled jogging strollers sold under the B.O.B. brand name and are as follows:

  1. Ironman
  2. Ironman Duallie
  3. Revolution
  4. Revolution CE
  5. Revolution Flex
  6. Revolution Flex Duallie
  7. Revolution Pro
  8. Revolution Pro Duallie
  9. Revolution SE
  10. Revolution SE Demo
  11. Revolution SE Duallie
  12. Revolution SE Duallie Plus
  13. Revolution SE Plus
  14. Sport Utility Stroller
  15. Stroller Strides
  16. Stroller Strides Duallie
  17. SUS Duallie

The lawsuit demands that Britax halt all sales of the above mentioned strollers and issue a formal recall that offers a remedy, replacement, or full refund to consumers. Britax has not yet responded to the lawsuit, but the CPSC noted in their filing that the stroller giant is aware of the injuries sustained by consumers from their faulty strollers and has failed to act.
