Chicago-area gas employee dies after truck accident

A 52 year-old Chicago-area man has died from injuries received after a truck accident. The accident victim was operating a DitchWitch excavator when a box van ran off the road and struck the excavator. He flipped the excavator over and pinned the victim underneath.

The crash occurred in an unincorporated portion of Will County near Naperville’s far south side. The fire department paramedics arrived quickly and rushed the injured man to the hospital. It was later learned that the gas crews were repairing or replacing underground gas lines when the truck crash occurred.

The gas company’s community relations director stated: “It’s a tragic accident. It’s under investigation and we’re cooperating with the authorities to determine what transpired out there.” The traffic unit is continuing to investigate the accident.
